    • SURNAME_MEANING: Variant of Hitchcock. '-cox' or 'cocks' means 'son of' the same. '-cock' is mainly a Dorset, Wilts, Somerset name but is common also in Suffolk. Hitch is a surname based on the forename 'Richard'. So Hitchcock (or Hiscock) originated for a person who was the son of Richard (Cottle B. Dictionary of Surnames 2nd Ed. 1978 Penguin:London).

      SURNAME_ORIGIN: The "Hiscock" family name originated in Wiltshire, which is the county adjacent to Hampshire. The "Hiscock" family traces their ancestral roots back to Norman origin.
