    • Captain Hugh Cumberbatch, Alexandra Princess of Wales’s Own (Yorkshire Regiment), only son of Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Cumberbatch, of Croxted House, Farnborough, was married on Saturday [8 June 1912], at Brompton Oratory to Miss Helen Mary Oliphant, only daughter of General Sir Laurence and the Hon. Lady Oliphant, of 14, Hans-road. The service was taken by the Rev. Father Creuse and the Rev. Father Kypers. General Sir Laurence Oliphant gave away his daughter, who wore a dress of silver brocade veiled with old lace, her veil of old lace falling over a wreath of orange blossoms, and she carried a bouquet of white roses and lilies of the valley.
      There were eight bridesmaids – Miss Victoria Oliphant and the Hon. Ethel Gerard, who wore frocks of pink satin with white net fichus; Miss Cumberbatch, Miss Gosselin, Miss Kathleen Greenwood, Miss Murphy, Miss Rutson, and Miss Shafto, dressed in pale pink satin draped with pink chiffon and finished with Vandyke lace collars and cuffs. Each carried a bouquet pf pink roses, and wore a platinum and diamond initial “H” brooch, the bridegrooms’ presents. Mr. Franklyn, Yorkshire Regiment, was best man. Lady Oliphant held a reception at 39, Pont-street, the residence of the Hon. Lady Gosselin and later in the afternoon the bride and bridegroom left for Lower House, Thursley, lent for the honeymoon by Mr. and Mrs. Cave.

      At Brompton Oratory, on Saturday afternoon, the marriage took place of Miss Helen M. Oliphant, the only daughter of General Sir Laurence and Lady Oliphant, with Capt. Hugh Cumberbatch, Alexandra Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment, only son of Mr. E. C. Cumberbatch, of Croxted House, Farnborough. Six maids were in attendance on the bride : Miss Cumberbatch, the bridegroom's sister ; Miss Gosselin, the bride's cousin ; Miss Kathleen Greenwood, Miss Murphy, Miss Rutson, and Miss Shafto, and two children, Miss Victoria Oliphant and Miss Ethel Gerard. Father Crewse performed the nuptial rite, and Mr. Franklyn, a brother officer of the bridegroom, was best man. After a reception at the residence of Lady Gosselin, the bride's aunt, the bride and bridegroom left for Lower House, Thursley, lent by Mr. and Mrs. Cave.
